How I spent my time unemployed
Hello
My new job started yesterday, but before then I had 10 days of funemployment. Here are some of the cool stuffs I did while jobless:
Studio visit at Creature World
I was invited to collaborate with Danny Cole on a Creature World project he’s got cooking up! He has a BEAUTIFUL studio, filled with Creature World art, storyboards, trending furniture, and toys. It was a place of wonder and creativity.
Danny made me some tea and I stuck around, drawing while sitted on their comfortable couch.
Maryland Bois come to visit
Some of my closest friends, my most cherished guys, my loyal dawgs, my most serious compadres, visited Brooklyn for the weekend and we got up to no good (played pool and hookah’d and ate at restaurants)
I went on a journey of sorts
I met up with my brutha Mathew and we hung out in the middle of the work day. We walked around Fort Greene and talked about life, drew doodles, ate snacks, and were whimsical.
Ne Zha 2
I watched Ne Zha 2 with my most beautiful girlfriend. It was so funny and cute.
Said goodbye to G&G home theater
I went back to Maryland and bid farewell to my friend group’s home base. Since high school, we spent endless hours in Ganesh’s basement, playing fifa, pranking each other, getting really furked up, watching movies, sleeping, eating, laughing, and being best friends. Ganesh’s family moved out, so we did one last hurrah and did much of the same stuff we did back then, but for the last time.
It was sad at first… and then we went to Ganesh’s new basement which was fricken bangin.
Love Pomelo
I got a bonus from my last job, so I treated my family out to a fancy dinner. Of course this is nothing in comparison for all they’ve done for me.
My funemployment week was fun! But also, I spent a lot of it overthinking, anxious, and moody. Sucks! I had too much time on my hands I reckon. A lot of time to think about weird shit. That stressed me out I think.
And now I’m back to work! Dang…
BAD STUDENT
On my last day of unemployment, I was invited to print some of my work at Bad Student, a RISO studio in Queens.
It was magical. I had always wanted to get involved in printmaking, especially RISO, but felt intimidated by the challenge of learning a new medium. Fortunately, my amazing friend Victoria connected me with Pau and Felize at Bad Student and they reached out to collaborate with me!!! WHAT AN HONOR!!!
I learned a TON about RISO and how to print. The painterly quality of RISO had me tingling all over with that overwhelming sensation of creative awakening. The above drawing is one of the two artworks we were able to get finished in our studio time. I got more cookin… zines next… can’t wait to show ya’ll!
Memories
I be drawling. Every single day I be drawling. But drawling is really really hard sometimes.
I’ve been working on this memory for a while now and am a bit disappointed by how long it’s taking to storyboard - BUT I’ve finally started inking and am hoping to finish in the next week or so.
Here’s a sneak peek:
As I’ve said many times, I’m committed to completing 10 memory videos before I retire the series. This is story number 6, and I’m VERY VERY VERY anxious and rushed to finish out the rest of the series because I have developed an idea for my next content series.
But these memories take a while to make (almost 1 month per story), so I’ll have to be patient and dedicated… two things I’m horrible at being, especially when it comes to my art.
REX
I liked this album cover and started listening. I like this.
Thanks for reading! May all your dreams come true <3
